Former Commissioner of Mental Health in New York State

James Stone grew up in Syracuse, NY and graduated from Syracuse University (B.A., MSW). He was employed by Onondaga County (NY) as a Child Care Worker, then Deputy Director of Detention Care (3 years); the NYS Divsion for Youth (now Office of Children and Family Services), (last position: Superintendent of Industry Training School) for 14 years; by Livingston County, NY as Director of Mental Health Services (1 year); by the NYS Office of Mental Health as Chief of Mental Health Treatment Service (8 years); and Monroe County, NY as Director of Mental Health and Community Services (8 years), and as NYS Commissioner of Mental Health (8 years.) He ended his career with the federal government an Director of Behavioral Health for the Indian Health Service.
